Business Card Layout
A systematic method of going about to choose your business card layout will make it easy to design a winning business card.
Firstly, you need to choose the overall layout of the card: This can be a:
Single sided business card
Double sided business card
Folding business card
This list is not exhaustive. These are just the commonly used layouts.Secondly, once you decide on the overall layout you need to decide on whether you want to design the card using a:
Portrait format/Vertical format
Landscape format/Horizontal format
Thirdly, we get to the actual placement of logos, graphics, contact details, name and so on, on the card. This is usually what people refer to when they talk about business card layout and is the most important aspect of choosing a layout. The first thing to remember is that you can place things anywhere on the card as long as it is within the safe area of the card. The exact placement is then up to you and will depend on a number of factors. Most important of these factors is the image or look and feel that you ultimately want to portray. It is important to keep your card looking neat and not cluttered to create a good impression. Place the different elements of the card in places where you feel they look best and are still easy to read. Below are some examples of layouts that you can consider. The single-sided landscape option is used as an example for the sake of simplicity.
These are simply sample layouts. There are many more possibilities and these examples should open up your mind to think of other layouts you may wish to use. It is also possible to mix elements from two or three layouts until you come up with something you are happy with.
