Business Card Making Software – Office Printer
This review of the business card making software Office Printer version 2.0 is meant to assist anyone thinking of investing in a business card program. It points out both the good and the bad aspects of the program in order to assist you to make an informed choice. Office Printer is an all-round office printing application and can be used for making labels, greeting cards, index cards, letterheads, name tags and postcards amongst others. It also handles business card design and printing. Look and feel The interface is pleasing to the eye and the arrangement of things is pretty much standard, which is good. It’s quite easy to find your way aound the workspace. The mouse over text for icons is there so you don’t have to guess the tools or what they do. Templates There is a reasonable number of templates available, although in comparison to other programs they are not very exciting, with the exception of a few. Level of technical know how required Not much technical knowledge required to operate this business card making software as it is pretty basic for the most part and easy enough to use. Help files are available should you require guidance. Formats Default saving format is as an Office printer Document (bcd).Export of cards as a bmp image is available. Unfortunately there are no other export options. Needless to say this is quite restrictive and in all the programs I have used this has the least choice as far as export formats go. However when it comes to importing objects the program can handle quite a wide variety of formats, including Photoshop, Corel, Word and a couple of others. There is even an option to import video files, though I am sure you can’t use these for business cards specifically. Import formats supported include jpg, bmp, wmf and gif. Resolution is good at up to 1200 dpi. Trial version functionality and restrictions Thirty (30) days after the software is installed, OfficePrinter automatically disables its printing capability. Print sheet stock and layout options Avery and Compulabel are the only two with stock support on Office Printer. A wider choiuce would have been good. Graphic design capability Basic shapes can be drawn with ease. System Requirements Office Printer requires a PC running Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000, or XP, and at least 6MB of free hard drive space. Value for money At US$15.95 this is the cheapest business card making software I have come across. Which makes it a reasonable deal despite some of its limitations Overall Score out of five
